The series will focus on Barack and Michelle Obama’s latest autobiographical books, A Promised Land by Barack Obama and The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama.
Attendees will meet once a week on Tuesday evenings from April 25th - May 23rd.
Now in its fourth year, this season of JCAL Reads will investigate contemporary blackness through the two autobiographies, and the impact the Obama family has had on how we envision it. The sessions intend to provide readers an opportunity to better understand and draw comfort from the changes produced by the legacy of the first Black president and first lady.
JCAL Reads will be facilitated by Stephanie D. Delia, an immigration attorney with deep roots in Southeast Queens, and Aleeia Abraham, the founder of Blaque Resource Network. Blaque Resource network is an organization created to elevate Black businesses and communities in Queens.
