Artist Statement: I am a multi-discliplinary artist whose work addresses urban or environmental issues, specific histories of a site, or more personal narratives. The images here are from an art residency in 2019, when I was the Queens Council on the Arts ArtPort Artist in Residence at LaGuardia Airport. I produced a project called “Postcards from Queens,” making intricate ink and marker drawings of landscapes in Queens, famous and overlooked. The drawings were printed as postcards and offered for free. The postcards were captioned with historical information, offering insight into different areas of Queens. Ultimately, my goal was to encourage visitors to see the potential for beauty in the everyday, as well as to present a sense of the vastness and historical richness of the borough that they were flying through. It also led to interesting random conversations about places, familiar and not, that people had personal connections to.
