Special Announcement: Music is Back at JCAL

Dear Friends of JCAL:

This week is all about choices. You can watch Tony Adè—one of the top Afrobeat artists in the US—live-streaming from JCAL at 7pm on Thursday, April 21 as part of our Riddim Section concert series. Or you can choose to be one of 20 people who will see the concert live at JCAL!

You read that right! As of April 2, the state of New York permits small venues like JCAL to welcome back in-person guests. To make that happen, we’re strictly observing all COVID-19 measures and protocols. So, while this is one of those times when the phrase “seating is limited” really means “seating is limited,” you should scroll down this newsletter and RSVP if you’re up to hear live music for the first time in 2021. (The concert is free; donations are always welcome.)

Quick trivia question: When was the last time JCAL produced its own film festival? If you’re answer is “What? JCAL is mounting a film festival?”…yep, we are. Our 10-Minute Film Festival premieres on our YouTube this Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17, at 7pm. More than 80 films were submitted to our jury and now you can find out which films were the finalists and winners! See the information below.

Your final choice this week is to forward this email to anyone you know who’d like to follow JCAL. Or just ping us to say hey. We love to hear from you.

With appreciation,

Leonard Jacobs, Interim Executive Director

Courtney Ffrench, Interim Artistic Director
