Here's two socially distanced events to enjoy in August

Throughout the current pandemic, we have remained devoted to our mission of delivering affordable and accessible arts programs. Our Youtube has served as a virtual stage and classroom for our organization, home to dozens of Pop Up Classes, performances and discussions. While our landmark locations are still closed for the moment, this month's events aim for you to get active, and have some socially distant fun.

Every Body Move Workshops:

Black Girl Spectrum

August 10th - August 24th

Black Girl Spectrum (BGS) seeks to amplify the cultural and creative empowerment of Black girls and women through dance, dialogue and popular education tools. Young girls of color (ages 7-12) and young women of color (ages 13-17) can reserve their spot for the appropriate cohort here: Space is extremely limited.

The workshops take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from August 10th to August 21st. Group 1 (ages 7-12) will meet from 10am to 11am, while Group 2 (ages 13-17) will meet from 12pm to 1pm. These workshops will be IN PERSON on the lawn of the Jamaica Performing Arts Center (153-10 Jamaica Avenue). All COVID-19 safety protocols will be observed, and masks required, for all sessions.

Flamenco Latino 2020 Más Allá Series

Live stream performance - August 6

Free Live show - August 21st

After being disrupted this Spring by the Corona Virus, Flamenco Latino finalizes its 2020 Más Allá Series (“Way Beyond”) with two events in collaboration with Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning. Directors Aurora Reyes and Basilio Georges will offer a free LiveStream duo performance of concert excerpts, including short explanations of their artistic motives and methods, on Thurs. August 6, 7-8 PM.

The company will follow with a final outdoor concert, also to be streamed, in front of the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, 153-10 Jamaica Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11432, on Friday August 21, 2020 at 4:30-5:30 PM. Their flamenco repertoire includes elements of jazz, blues and salsa featuring 7 dancers and 3 musicians. Choreographer, dancer and singer, Aurora Reyes is joined by the hip and dynamic tap dancer, Omar Edwards, and the electrifying and eclectic flamenco dancer, Jose Moreno. Original music by Basilio Georges authentically navigates the different styles of dance.
