Here's what to know about tomorrow's film premiere

While the regularly scheduled Dance Season has been postponed, JCAL Resident Artist Monstah Black's performances found their new home online. For the past two months, Monstah has graced our virtual stage with performances, discussions and fashion looks as a part of "Back in the Closet w/ Monstah Black", a series co-presented by JCAL.

Now that audiences are familiar with the talented performer, we're treated to "Monstah Black's Cotton: the Quarantine Edition premiere." Cotton is a powerful dance film accompanied by a live musical performance. The work investigates the idea of physical transformation as a source for healing and a means to overcome Post Traumatic Stress Disorder passed on for generations through DNA.

Black employs images from slavery as a point of departure, modifying the images into positive iconography to inspire and empower those that suffered and continue to suffer from its ugly legacy. “It’s a matter of taking the historical facts from the ugly side of history, and then reshaping it for myself and others to achieve empowerment and affirmation,” Black says.

The must see event will take place exclusively on our Facebook on June 5th at 7:30 PM. For a beautiful and impactful performance, tune in with us to "Monstah Black's Cotton: the Quarantine Edition premiere."
