JCAL operates two venues;
Jamaica Arts Center (JAC) and
Jamaica Performing Arts Center (JPAC)
For more information about the venues click the site below, or use calendar for find event location.
The entrance to Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL) is on Jamaica Avenue, between 161st and Union Hall Streets. There are no steps or inclines leading to the entrance. Accessible street curbs are at the corners of both 160th and Union Hall Streets. The vestibule has 4 steps leading to the reception area on the first floor. A pathway ramp is available to access the vestibule.
Gallery and Meeting Rooms
All public areas of Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning are wheelchair accessible. JCAL’s Gallery is located on the first floor. Meeting and studio spaces located on the second and third floors are accessible via the elevator located in the theater lobby.
Seating for People with Mobility Impairments
The in-house theater has 5 steps outside the entrance. A motorized chair lift is available in the theater lobby. Seating is available in the rear of our 99-seat theater. The seating in this area is open floor space unobstructed with fixed seating. The size and design of the theater, ensures every seat has a clear unobstructed view of the stage. This section is general admission and seating is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
Information regarding particular needs of individual patrons is very important to us. If it is desired or necessary, patrons may advise us of type of impairment, the size of a wheelchair (if applicable), preference to use our theater seats or remaining in own chair, etc. Our Visitor Services Coordinator will pass this information on to our performance staff to help us better prepare.
Classes for the Developmentally Disabled
JCAL offers workshops for developmentally disabled teens and adults. We work with AABR, the Association for the Advancement of the Blind and Retarded, to offer a dance class for their residents. During our National Dance Week event in April, we also offered a special dance workshop for the Young Adult Institute. JCAL is currently developing special needs classes in theater, visual arts and yoga.
Guide Dogs - JCAL provides special consideration for Service or Guide dogs. JCAL’s No Pet Policy does not apply to any Service or Guide dog providing assistance to a person with disabilities.
Accessible restrooms are found on the main level and are open during all performances and whenever the Center is open. A water fountain is available right outside their entrance and our performance staff is always available to assist with further directions.
JCAL does not operate any parking facility. Metered parking is located on nearby side streets, in addition to numerous parking garages in the surrounding area.
