10 Minute Film Festival

The much anticipated 10-Minute Film Festival is here!


The online event consists of short films made by NYC based filmmakers with one central theme - 2020. It will take place exclusively on JCAL’s Youtube on April 16th and 17th at 7:30pm. With a theme of 2020, filmmakers will be given a platform to tell their stories, and interpret this unprecedented year in their artistry.

Not all artists work or think alike. Participating artists from Process ➡️ Project will talk about their creative process and sketchbook practice. Immanuel Wilkins Trio

Immanuel Wilkins is a Saxophonist, Composer, Arranger, and Bandleader from the greater Philadelphia-area. Being a bandleader and having a working group for over four years has allowed Immanuel to grow both as a composer and arranger. Ultimately, Immanuel’s mission is to create a sound that has a profound spiritual and emotional impact which will allow him to become a great leader in the long lineage of jazz musicians. Through studying the human pathos of the music and the culture of jazz, Immanuel aspires to bring people together through the commonality of love and belief in this music.

Building Equity Project

Building Equity Project Programs

Building Equity for Immigrant, Indigenous and Native American Artists is a pilot program from JCAL. Supported by a grant from New York Community Trust, it is dedicated to researching, engaging and promoting underrepresented artists in our community, and to providing greater access for audiences to see and to experience their work. 


Recent programs include 500 Years & Counting: The East Coast Blind Spot; Indigenous Peoples of the Caribbean: A Focus on the TaínoPuerto Rico Update with Prolibertad; and Film & Music: Sounds of SiberiaAll the recordings of these live-streamed events are available on our Youtube channel.

Process -> Project: What Comes Out of Our Sketchbooks

JCAL is excited to partner with the Southeast Queens Artist Alliance to present Process → Project: What Comes Out of Our Sketchbooks, curated by Rejin Leys and Damali Abrams.

This exhibition will present sketches, both loose and bound, by working artists with diverse practices: writing, painting, drawing, photography, collage, assemblage, sculpture, and paper-making. The shared act of sketching unites them.

Jamaica Flux 2021

JCAL is pleased to launch the fifth iteration of its triennial Jamaica Flux: Workspaces and Windows, and to announce the names of the 15 NYC-based artists and artist groups that have been selected for the year-long endeavor.
