Studio LLC
Studio LLC teaches artists to regard their studio as a small business, identify their entrepreneurial and professional goals and create a long-term plan for accomplishing them.
The enrolled artists will meet monthly, except for the summer months from February 2011 to January 2012. Culminating STUDIO LLC in January 2012, all enrolled artists will be invited to a group show.
STUDIO LLC's seminar series began Wednesday, January 19th. The seminar series is open to all professional artists who want help identifying their professional goals and creating a long-term plan. Admission is $10/seminar payable at the door or in advance via our website.

Tax Preparation for Emerging Artists - Susan Lee, CPA
The seminar covers the fundamentals of financial issues, which artists are facing today, along with exploring tax terminologies, different forms to use, deductible items and more. Susan will respond to artists' questions. -

Collaboration
Working with other people on an art project is recently seen as important and beneficial on many levels. JCAL invites BroLab, an artist collective, to the Studio LLC February Seminar. The group will present their experiences of collaboration along with the advantages and difficulties they found in working with other artists. -

Every Artist Insured: Health care and Health Care Reform in NYC - Renata Marinaro from the Actors Fund
The Artist Health Insurance Resource Center (AHIRC) promotes full access to quality, affordable health care. Workshops focus on health care and health insurance options for artists and entertainers. The information is comprehensive and unbiased – no commercial or political sponsors. Workshop topics include: understanding health care reform, applying for government programs, finding affordable health insurance and health care, getting insured despite a pre-existing condition, and lowering the cost of medications. Q&A follows each workshop, plus individual consultations. -

Independent Curators - Jose Ruiz
Mr. Ruiz, an independent curator, will lead an informal lecture and discussion around the role of the independent curator in contemporary art; he will discuss outlets, opportunities, and methodologies; and dissect specific relationship between the independent curator and artist. He will also illuminate background on past, recent, and current curatorial projects; as well as discuss the limitations and possibilities of the independent curator. He will also talk about his impression of the works by 2011 Studio LLC participants. -

Working with a Gallery - Katie Rashid , Director/Artist Liaison at the Andrea Rosen Gallery
Rashid will present her experience working in galleries, how a program is formed, what services galleries offer to artists, as well as the pros and cons of working with a gallery. Rashid served as director at Rhona Hoffman Gallery and Jack Shainman before joining Rosen. -

Studio Visit with Franklin Evans
Lector: Franklin Evans
The group will visit Franklin Evan’s studio in Manhattan to learn how a successful artist runs a studio. This is a sequel of the 2010 visiting at Dennis Oppenheim’s studio. Participating artists learns established artist’s practices and gain the first-hand experience of their operation behind the scene. -

Meeting a Critic and a Curator
Lector: Regine Basha, Independent Curator and Critic
Regine Basha will talk about her curatorial practices and her role as a critic. Presenting her shows and writings, she will share her experience of writing on art and provide some tips to emerging artists in terms of how to get a critic’s attention or how to engage with a critic, a curator or a writer. -

Organizing Studio as Business
