INSTRUCTOR PROFILE
Juan Espinosa
(Hip Hop for Teens, Advanced Hip Hop)
Juan Espinosa was born in the Bronx and raised in Queens. He began dancing professionally at the age of 18. He has studied many dance techniques all over the tri-state area and has worked and trained with the Vissi Dance Theater under the direction of Courtney Ffrench for the last 8 years. Juan has also worked with SPEAK dance ensemble and Afro-Caribbean dance revue choreographers Jennifer Washington, Jessica St. Vil, Candace Franklin, and Ester Grant. He performed at the International Black Dance Festival in Vienna, Austria with James "Buster" Grant of the Opus Dance Ensemble. He has had the honor of performing at Jacobs Pillow, Lincoln Center, City Center, Battery Park Dance Festival and the International Fringe Festival.
Juan has also taught at many city schools and city organizations such as the New York Urban League and Children's Aide Society. He was a guest teaching artist at the first Children's Black Dance Festival and has taught hip-hop workshops in Vienna, Austria. He is currently a Dance Major at Marymount Manhattan College working towards his B.F.A. Juan's personal quote is "Though the eyes of children real dreams come true"; he hopes to use the arts as a vessel to many children's dreams. This is Juan's fifth season at JCAL.
